Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill is looking to recruit a SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our team in the SEN Department, as we deliver our vision:

To contribute to the provision for specific children across the school where a SEND need has been identified especially in relation to supporting students with SEMH needs. Do you have the drive, passion, and commitment to deliver outstanding support to young people and have the expertise to support students who have SEMH needs?

The successful candidate will need to be able to work within the classroom, liaise with the class teacher, pastoral team and the SEN Team and be willing to provide bespoke support for students with SEMH needs.

We would welcome applications from those who have experience of working with children, especially those who may have had experience of working with children with SEMH or would be willing to undertake training to inform their practice in the area of SEMH in their drive to pursue a new career in this area.  We are looking for a dedicated individual to provide tailored support to our students.  You will be committed to making a positive difference to young people’s lives and in supporting and developing their learning.

 Key attributes for this role are:

  • GCSE grade C or equivalent in English and Maths. NVQ level 2 or 3.
  • Experience of working with children in a secondary school.
  • Experience of supporting children with SEN needs and/or disabilities SEND especially in SEMH.
  • High expectations of children's progress, attainment, and behaviour.
  • An ability to support pupils with barriers to their learning.
  • The ability to motivate, challenge and engage children.
  • The ability to use your own initiative, focusing on solving problems.
  • The ability to work as a positive team member.
  • Patience, empathy and good communication skills.
  • Organisation and resourcefulness, the ability to work under pressure with good time management skills and a sense of humour.
  • An understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding.
  • Confidence in using IT.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to build positive relationships.
  • Has successful experience of working with young people within a school.
  • Demonstrates willingness and ability to support children of all abilities.
  • Can work effectively with our teachers.
  • Has emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours and attitudes.
  • Can demonstrate flexibility and good organisational skills
  • To supervise children during breaks and lunch when necessary.

When required, provide support for teachers and HLTA’s, help children with their educational and social development, both in and out of the classroom and, where appropriate, contribute to the day-to-day running of the Academy.

To contribute to the raising of the achievement of children with an EHCP and support them in making expected or better progress.

To contribute to the promotion of the well-being of children within the Academy.

To promote and safeguard the welfare of children you teach or come into contact with.

Responsible, as a member of staff, for promoting and developing a positive culture and to ensure diversity within the Academy community is recognised and respected.

Contribute to the development of the Academy’s vision, values, and aims and to abide by agreed professional behaviours and attitudes.
