Music Instrumental Teacher for Drum Kit

Part-time, term time only position is on a self-employed basis.

We are looking to recruit an inspirational and enthusiastic part time visiting instrumental music teacher for high quality drum tuition. The successful candidate must be able to prepare students for ABRSM and Trinity Rock & Pop Music Examinations throughout the grades and encourage a life-long love of music and wider participation of music.

They must be able to work with other members of the music department in the preparation and presentation of Academy ensembles, productions and concerts. The candidate will be driven to developing student engagement and involvement in the wider life of the music department.

Other Details

Teaching is part time, in term time only. The hours of work are dictated by the number of pupils requiring lessons.  Currently we have 3 hours of teaching a week at one site and 4 and it is hoped the successful applicant will be proactive in encouraging more pupils to start lessons. There may be opportunities to get involved with other music-making activities in the Academy including the running of extra-curricular ensembles.

This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to speak fluent spoken English is an essential requirement for this role.

Job Description


 Teacher of Drum Kit

Summary of the Role:


The post holder will act as a Teacher of Drum Kit within the Academy under the guidance of the Head of Music.  The number of teaching hours currently available is 7 per week across the 2 sites.


The aim of the Music Department is to establish for children a caring environment in which each child will be nurtured and encouraged to develop their musical potential. The successful candidate will teach across both the primary and secondary phases of the Academy.

Main Duties and  Responsibilities:

  • Teach drum kit Phase 1 (Year 3) through to Upper Sixth (Year 13)
  • Assist in organising timetable for pupils
  • Write reports on pupils progress
  • Regularly liaise with the Head of Music
  • Prepare pupils for practical examination and Academy concerts

Method of Assessment


  • A Music degree
  • A practising musician
  • Evidence of additional courses attended and certificates attained

Production of the applicant’s certificates.


  • Evidence of teaching experience
  • At least two years’ teaching experience
